This two-day experience is designed for travelers who want to explore the highlights of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and visit Machu Picchu without rushing. You’ll journey through historic towns, vibrant markets, and remarkable archaeological sites before boarding a scenic train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to the famous citadel.
Day one focuses on the beauty and culture of the Sacred Valley, with guided visits to Pisac—known for its impressive ruins and artisan market—and Ollantaytambo, an original Inca town whose stone terraces and temples still dominate the landscape.
From Ollantaytambo, a train takes you through dramatic river canyons toward Aguas Calientes, where you’ll spend the night.
Day two is dedicated entirely to Machu Picchu, where your guide leads you through one of the world’s most iconic archaeological sanctuaries before returning to Cusco by train and private transport.
Tours can be arranged in small group or private service according to your preference.

Your Day-by-Day Adventure
Your journey begins with a pickup from your Cusco hotel at 8:00 a.m. The route climbs past the hills surrounding Saqsaywaman and gradually descends into the fertile Sacred Valley, dropping about 450 m (1,500 ft) until reaching the village of Pisac beside the Urubamba River.
Pisac Market & Ruins
In Pisac, you’ll first have time to wander through its colorful artisan market, where local families sell traditional weaving, ceramics, jewelry, and handmade crafts. After browsing for about 30 minutes, you continue up the mountainside to the Pisac archaeological complex, renowned for its sweeping terraces and panoramic views of the valley.
Your guide will lead you through temples, ceremonial areas, stone tunnels, and the famous Intihuatana carved into the mountain. Exploration typically lasts about 1.5 hours.
If you prefer additional time at the market instead of visiting the ruins, you can coordinate this with your guide.
Lunch & Visit to Ollantaytambo
After Pisac, the journey continues toward Urubamba, where you pause for lunch (not included). A short drive then brings you to Ollantaytambo, one of the best-preserved Inca towns in Peru.
Here, you visit its monumental archaeological site, including the Temple of the Sun, agricultural platforms, and sophisticated hydraulic channels constructed by Inca engineers. You’ll also observe the old granaries and storage structures perched high on the surrounding mountains.
Train to Aguas Calientes
Following your visit, you head to the train station to board the afternoon train—usually around 16:30, though schedules may vary. The ride lasts approximately 1.5 hours and winds through lush valleys and steep canyon walls.
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, your guide will meet you and accompany you to your accommodation (not included). With the evening free, you may explore the pedestrian streets, visit the market, or relax before the early start the next day.
Your guide meets you at your hotel around 5:40 a.m. After breakfast, you walk to the bus station for the 25–30 minute ride up the mountain toward Machu Picchu.
Guided Tour of Machu Picchu
Upon entering the archaeological site, you begin a two-hour guided exploration following the circuit assigned on your entrance ticket. Depending on the route, you may visit iconic points such as the:
- Guardian House
- Intihuatana
- Temple of the Sun
- Sacred Plaza
- Main terraces and ceremonial areas
Throughout the visit, your guide will explain architectural techniques, religious significance, and the engineering behind this extraordinary Inca sanctuary. Panoramic views of the mountains and deep valleys accompany your walk through the citadel.
Return to Aguas Calientes & Train Back to Cusco
When the tour ends, you take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll have time for lunch (not included). Later, you board the train back to Poroy or Ollantaytambo, where a Path Finder Peru representative will meet you and drive you back to your hotel in Cusco—about 25 minutes if returning via Poroy.
Your two-day Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu experience concludes with a deeper understanding of Inca culture, stunning landscapes, and unforgettable memories.
